SuperNOVA Volunteer of the Month

The AFCEA NOVA SuperNOVA is that chapter volunteer whose service to the Chapter goes above and beyond what is normally expected by a committee chair or committee member and sets the example for our other volunteers to follow. The below guidance standardizes the SuperNOVA criteria, nomination, and selection processes to be followed for recognizing volunteer contributions of chapter members.

Criteria for consideration as SuperNOVA

  • Must be an active member of the AFCEA NOVA Chapter and currently serving as a Committee Chair, Committee Member, or supporting one or more AFCEA NOVA events.
  • Should have served as an AFCEA NOVA volunteer for at least one year.
  • Should not have been previously selected as SuperNOVA in the past 12 months.
  • Can be a Young AFCEAN, but if so has been previously chosen as the YAFCEAN of the Month for their service.
Note: A majority vote by the Board can waive any of these criteria.

Nomination and Selection Process:

  1. Awards Committee solicits from board members and committee chairs, on a quarterly basis, nominations for SuperNOVA for the following quarter. Solicitation goes out the first month of the quarter for candidates to be recognized the following quarter. Solicitation will request input in the attached format within 3 weeks.
  2. Committee Chairs and Board Members provide input to the Awards Committee in the standard format. In order to keep the number of nominations to a manageable amount, each Committee Chair can nominate a maximum of two candidates per quarter and each Board Member can nominate one candidate per quarter. All committees are strongly encouraged to nominate at least one person each cycle.
  3. The Awards Committee will collect the inputs, ensure the nominee(s) meet the criteria, and develop a consolidated list for consideration by the Board.
  4. The VP of Chapter Affairs will maintain the list of recipients for the Chapter. To allow for flexibility, the Board will select up to three SuperNOVA's in advance of the monthly luncheons.
  5. The Committee Chair and / or VP under which the selected committee volunteer falls will notify the person of their selection, and verify their availability for the luncheons scheduled for the next quarter.
  6. The Committee Chair and / or VP will let the Awards Committee Chair know the availability of the selected personnel. The Awards Committee Chair will schedule the awardees for an upcoming luncheon, and relay this information back.
  7. The Awards Committee will inform the Luncheon Committee of the selections and planned recognition dates.
  8. During Luncheon script development, the Awards Committee will validate the SuperNOVA's information (particularly company and job title) and re-confirm their availability. If their availability has changed, the Award Committee will work to reschedule the selected candidates. This information will be relayed to the Luncheon Committee along with the script input.
  9. Prior to each luncheon, the Awards Committee will produce the plaque for SuperNOVA and ensure certificate is signed and the plaque is delivered to the Luncheon Committee.
  10. Awards Committee will maintain a running history of SuperNOVA recipients.
