by admin last modified 06-15-2009 04:26 PM

The AFCEA NOVA Scholarship Application Window will be open to take new applications NOW THROUGH MONDAY, APRIL 20, 2009, 5pm. (Original March 30 deadline was extended by now three weeks).  Please review the eligibility criteria below to determine if you will be able to apply.

Application packages must be completely submitted online and all documents received by AFCEA NOVA by 5pm, April 20, 2009 (Original March 30 deadline was extended by now three weeks).  Packages include online application, transcripts, and letters of recommendation.

  • Are you in school studying IT, math or science?
  • Are your kids going to college to study a technical field?
  • Are you a soldier / sailor / airman / Marine /coast guardsman / civilian pursuing technical training or a college education?

If the answer is Yes...then you need to read the notice below about scholarships available from AFCEA NOVA.

AFCEA NOVA annually awards a significant number of merit-based scholarship grants to qualified students who are pursuing college degrees or technical/vocational training in various technical fields such as:

  • Computer Science
  • Information technology / Information Systems
  • Engineering
  • Physical/Natural Science
  • Mathematics
  • And other technology-related fields supportive of our National Security.

Scholarships are $4,000 for full-time students, and $2,000 for part-time students, paid over the course of two semesters, and can be applied to undergraduate degree programs, graduate degree programs, or a certificate.

ATTENTION VETERANS: This year there will be scholarship funds set-aside for enlisted personnel.  Also, there may be an additional stipend for scholarship winners who are veterans, based on demonstrated financial need. We recognize that application and qualifications for technical training or certification programs for veterans are different from college degree programs.  As such, if you are a veteran pursuing a technical training certification, we have an abbreviated application requirement where certain sections of the application normally associated with a degree program are not required.

All Scholarship Applicants must:

  1. Attend an accredited institution
  2. Live in the Greater Washington area*
  3. Be a U. S. Citizen
  4. Be pursuing a degree or certificate in technology, math, science, or a technical-field related to national security

(*if you do not live in Greater Washington, but you or your parent/guardian have been an active member of AFCEA NOVA prior to Jan 1, then you may apply)

Although the scholarships are merit-based, financial need and past/current military/govt service may be factors considered in the awards.

2 Letters of Recommendation and copies of transcripts and test scores are required, and must be received by the 5pm, April 20, 2009 deadline (Original March 30 deadline was extended by now three weeks).

The Application must be completed online, and finalized no later than 5pm, April 20, 2009 (Original March 30 deadline was extended by now three weeks). Applicants will be notified by mid May, and awardees will be invited to a special program & mentor night this summer.

Questions about the application process may be directed to AFCEA NOVA staff at info@afceanova.org (preferred) or by tel: 703-549-6911

The Application Process is NOW CLOSED for 2009

(All parts of the application must be completed to successfully submit the application.  The first time you visit the Application, you MUST submit Step A AND Step B.  If you do not submit Step B on the first visit, then you will not be able to return to your answers. When you are ready, you MUST complete all parts of the application and mark it "CERTIFIED" in order for us to consider the application for an award. The best approach may be to examine the application fully, prepare your answers in advance, and cut and paste to submit when you are completely ready to submit.  Also, be sure to start your letters of recommendation now so they are in on time.)

Letters of Recommendation, transcripts, and test scores should submitted through the U.S. mail (if sealed), or should be faxed by the reviewer to:
