Important Note for 2010 Scholarship Recipients: Address, Phone and Fax have changed

This is an important announcement for all recipients of AFCEA NOVA's 2010 academic scholarships.

Please be sure to note AFCEA NOVA's new address, phone and fax numbers (Phone: 703.778.4645 | Fax: 703.683.5480) before sending documentation for your tuition reimbursements. Documents sent to the old address cannot be processed, so your reimbursement will be delayed.

Pathway Program at NVCC & GMU

At the September 6, 2007 Monthly Luncheon AFCEA NOVA, in conjunction with the AFCEA Intl Educational Foundation, presented a check for $20,000 to Northern Virginia Community College to help make college possible for more students in our region interested in studying math and science. The program, called Pathway to the Baccalaureate, provides local financially needy students the opportunity to attend Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), and, ultimately, enroll at George Mason University (GMU).

Navy Flag Promotions & Assignment Changes

On Thursday, April 1, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced the following flag assignments relevant to the Gov IT community:

RADM Edward H. Deets III will be assigned as Commander, Naval Network Warfare Command (NETWARCOM), Norfolk, Va. Deets is currently serving as Vice Commander of NETWARCOM

Army ISEC Intern Program

For over 40 years the Department of Army has administered an intern program which takes individuals from entry level positions to positions of mid-level management. Through on-the-job training and formal classroom instruction thousands of civilian employees have been trained in a variety of career fields. Many of Army's senior-level civilian leaders are products of the intern program. The Department of Army's management intern positions are permanent, full time Civil Service positions for which recruitment is currently being conducted!

Smithsonian Family Day Reception & Fly-In Viewing

AFCEA NOVA (The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association of Northern Virginia) has provided $350,000 in funding to the Fairfax County Public Schools and the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center to develop a four part series of “Electronic Field Trips” about the science and technology of aviation. The four episodes will provide a lasting resource to encourage the interest of children in math, science & engineering across the nation.

February 2010 Mentor Protege Program

McLean, VA- The Northern Virginia Chapter Young AFCEANs recently had the second installment of their Mentor/Protégé Roundtable Forum. The Forum allows for a small gathering of Young AFCEANs to meet with a leader in the community to exchange ideas, obtain professional advice and ask honest questions in an open forum. This Bi-monthly event was hosted by BGEN Eric Vollmecke, Chief of Staff, West Virginia Air National Guard, in his offices.
