AFCEA NOVA and March of Dimes Announce Winners for 2011 Heroines in Technology Awards

AFCEA NOVA and the March of Dimes are pleased to announce the winners of the eleventh annual Heroines in Technology Awards. The awards recognize women in the technology industry, from Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia, who demonstrate volunteerism and showcase their expertise in the technology sector to benefit communities around them.

Award categories include Rising Heroine, Individual Heroine, Corporate Heroine, Lifetime Achievement Heroine and AFCEA International Government Heroine Award.

The 2011 Heroines in Technology winners are:

Rising Heroine Award: Tiffany Mensah, CCSi
Individual Heroine Award: Teresa Bozzelli, Sapient
Individual Heroine Award: Lisa Tompkins, The MITRE Corporation
Corporate Heroine Award: Marta Wilson, Transformation Systems, Inc.
Government Heroine Award: Chief Cathy Lanier, Metropolitan Police Department
Government Heroine Award: Katherine Hollis, Defense Logistics Agency
Lifetime Achievement Heroine: Gail Drake, Prince William County Schools

Award winners were announced at a black-tie gala held Oct. 21, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Reston. The event supports local March of Dimes programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to reduce the occurrence of birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

“We had an exceptional list of finalists this year and would like to congratulate and applaud each and every one of them,” said Bridget Bean, Event Co-Chair and District Director, U.S. Small Business Administration. “All of our finalists find a way to balance demanding jobs in the technology sector with giving back to their communities, with many mentoring the next generation of technology leaders. We are proud to be able to celebrate these accomplished women while raising money to support the local March of Dimes.”
