SIGNAL Magazine Update: Adopt-A-School Winner Announced - Tue, 01 May 2012
In May, the chapter's Educational Grant program and the Adopt-A-School program gave students at Lake Braddock Secondary School the opportunity to work with Samsung Galaxy tablets in the Advanced Programming class. These students have been using the Adobe Flash Professional software to create apps that introduced them to working with the touch functionality of tablets, including zooming and dragging objects. Students programmed the apps and went through the process of deploying and testing the app on the tablet. For several years now, there has been a steady decline in the number of students interested in pursuing advanced degrees in programming. The goal with using the tablets in the curriculum is to introduce students to the concepts of programming with technology that is interesting to them, with lessons that are engaging and with the hope that it will encourage students to pursue further studies in this area.
